No. of pages: 33

This is the most recent addition to the publications by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. It targets the needs of busy clinicians who are responsible for testing the clinical competence of residents in training. The book has four chapters only and 33 pages including a glossary at the end of the manual. The contents are well-organised and cover important areas of exam production including station and exam construction, with a properly developed test blueprint. An important chapter on the logistics of delivery is also included.

The manual may be useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students as well who wish to better prepare themselves for their forthcoming OSCE exams.

The first chapter gives a concise and relevant account of the assessment background to testing clinical competence and will be a useful reference source for those entrusted with this type of examining. It was not the intention of the manual to include references or too many extra pages, knowing the target group the manual has been designed for.
